‘The Lego Movie’ Behind the Scenes Featurette
Consider this a primer for the interview with The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller that we'll run later this afternoon. Their new film takes an unusual approach to building a world out of Lego — or it takes an unusual approach to making the movie. The film is actually built out of Lego, whether via stop-motion animation or using a CG process that actually replicated building the film's characters and sets out of plastic bricks.
This featurette opens a small window on the creation of the film, discussing how some of the film was put together, a process which is illuminated in more detail in our interview.

‘House of Cards’ Renewed for Third Season
Briefly: The second season of House of Cards won't hit Netflix for another ten days, but a third season is already a definite. The show has just been renewed by Netflix, so exec producers David Fincher and Beau Willimon have a mandate to go back to work. Not that this is a surprise, given that Netflix execs have pledged to continue the show. But it's good to know that we'll have thirteen more hours of Kevin Spacey as power-hungry politician Frank Underwood, and (even more so) Robin Wright as Underwood's iron-willed wife. [LAT]

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill Reteaming for 1996 Olympic Bombing Drama
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill's last team-up was a big success on a professional level, resulting in Oscar nominations for both, and by all accounts the two hit it off on a personal level as well. Now they're eager to reunite, this time to tell the story of Richard Jewell.
Fox has acquired the rights to Marie Brenner's 1997 Vanity Fair article "The Ballad of Richard Jewell," which followed the security guard who discovered a pipe bomb at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. He was initially hailed as a hero, and then (incorrectly) vilified as a suspect. More details on the project after the jump.
Deadline reports that the project is being developed as a starring vehicle for Hill, who'll play Jewell. DiCaprio will play an acquaintance of Jewell's, a Southern real estate attorney who helps clear his name. Both men will produce along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Kevin Misher. No writer or director is attached at this time.
The controversy surrounding Jewell in 1996 was not the media's finest hour, to put it mildly. At first, he was called a hero for finding the bomb and clearing the area before the explosion to minimize the damage. However, a subsequent report in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution indicated that Jewell was being investigated by the FBI as a possible suspect, since he supposedly fit the criminal profile of a "lone bomber."
Jewell was savaged in the press, portrayed as a loser who'd planted the bomb himself to make himself look good. The incident serves as a cautionary tale of trial by media. Leaks, rumors, and unfounded accusations were enough to ruin Jewell's life even though he had done nothing wrong. He was eventually cleared by the FBI a few months after the bombing.
The film pushes Hill further away from the comedic roles that first made him famous. His transition into dramatic acting has been remarkably well received. His Academy Award nomination for The Wolf of Wall Street is his second; he also previously earned a nomination for his first prominent "serious" role in Moneyball.
Hill will continue to skip back and forth across the comedy-drama spectrum in the near future. He'll be heard as the voice of Green Lantern in The Lego Movie this month, and will star in 22 Jump Street with Channing Tatum this summer. He recently wrapped True Story, a drama in which he plays a disgraced journalist whose identity is appropriated by a suspected killer (James Franco).
DiCaprio does not have any releases coming in the immediate future, but has been circling a few projects including the Jo Nesbø-adapted thriller Blood in the Snow and a Woodrow Wilson biopic.

In 1999, anticipation was so high for George Lucas' Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace , many of us initially overlooked the film's obvious problems. New ‘Divergent’ Trailer Explains Tris’ World; ‘Insurgent’ to Shoot in May
Lionsgate is feeling so optimistic about Divergent becoming the next big thing that they're hitting the ground running with the sequel, Insurgent . Akiva Goldsman is working on the script as we speak, and now the production company confirms that shooting is scheduled to begin this spring.
But before we get there, they still have to open the first movie. The studio has just released a new full-length trailer for the original Divergent, starring Shailene Woodley as a brave young heroine in dystopian Chicago. Watch it after the jump.
First, here's the fifteen-second teaser for the trailer that debuted on Monday.
And here's the trailer itself, which debuted on Buzzfeed and MSN UK.
Based on the novels by Veronica Roth, Divergent centers on a society which consists of five factions, each built around a particular personality trait. Young people are expected to pledge themselves to one of the groups when they come of age. But the rite of passage proves complicated for Tris (Woodley) when she is Divergent and will therefore never totally fit in anywhere.
Roth's books have proven immensely popular. As of the start of this year, the three volumes had sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Whether that popularity will translate to ticket sales remains to be seen, but Lionsgate is apparently quite confident that it will.
Production company Red Wagon Entertainment revealed this week that Insurgent would start shooting in May from the script written by Brian Duffield and rewritten by Goldsman. What's still unclear is who'll direct. Divergent's Neil Burger has said that he will not return for the sequel, and Lionsgate has yet to announce a new helmer.
Divergent opens March 21, 2014. Insurgent is set for release on March 20, 2015.
In a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.
